Our workforce is a mix of around 190 active employees who are audit professionals, specialists and support team members. We also engage audit service providers to conduct some of our work, and they are an integral part of our business. We are proud to celebrate our diverse backgrounds.

QAO’s Executive Leadership Team has shared responsibility for audit excellence, innovation and operational performance. Our operating model enables us to deliver our services as one team, with our Assistant Auditors-General overseeing our client services, quality, and people. Auditor-General

Rachel Vagg is Queensland’s 24th Auditor-General and the chief executive and accountable officer for the Queensland Audit Office. She has extensive experience as an Assistant Auditor-General and in leadership roles at QAO across our client services, technical advice, and treasury product areas. Rachel has also been partner at a global consulting and advisory firm in risk, governance and compliance, with a focus on public sector entities and local government. The Auditor-General is an independent officer of Queensland’s parliament.

Deputy Auditor-General

Pat's broad experience includes QAO client services for local government, audit policy and quality, and a range of senior financial accounting and treasury positions with multinational organisations. Pat leads QAO's parliamentary services including engagement, reporting, audit program planning, communications, and requests for audits.

Karen has extensive experience in private and public sector auditing, governance and risk. She leads QAO's audit practice areas including methodologies and toolkits, our quality framework, audit technical support, accounting and reporting, information technology, finance, and human resources.

Damon's experience spans audits across the public sector. He has held key roles in quality assurance and developing audit software for QAO. He is QAO's professional lead for our local government clients and the regions; responsible for service delivery and the quality of engagement. He also leads our engagement with our audit service providers.

Darren has extensive experience in assurance auditing, management, and investigations. He is QAO’s professional lead for our departmental clients and whole of government; responsible for service delivery, the quality of engagement, and related assurance audits. Bhavik has over 16 years of experience in the delivery of quality audit and assurance services in the private and public sectors. He has delivered external audits, financial reporting, and compliance and advisory services across a range of industries, with expertise in education, mining, infrastructure, and not-for-profit entities. At QAO, Bhavik leads our education and ports audits.

Brydie has over 11 years of experience across public and private sector audit and consulting, including for the financial services, education, and resources industries. Her experience includes financial audit, compliance engagements, internal audit, and other assurance services. She has also worked on internal and client-focused change projects, including developing methodology and new audit toolkits. At QAO, Brydie leads our financial services, university, justice, and community services clients.

CS

Charles has almost 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors at the Commonwealth and state levels. His experience includes auditing, policy, finance, and governance. While at QAO, Charles has led audits across a range of entities, most recently in the departmental, local government, and health sectors. He has also provided guidance to international audit offices. In his current role, Charles leads the development of QAO’s audit methodology and quality programs.

David has over 30 years of experience in audit across a range of public sector entities including throughout regional Queensland. David has led major engagements in the transport and health portfolios and most recently managed QAO’s methodologies and audit quality program; delivering a range of new products and practices that have improved the quality and effectiveness of QAO’s audit work. David’s current role includes leading engagements for general government clients.

David has 18 years of experience in auditing the public sector across a range of industries, including across the health portfolio, and delivering insights on ICT project management and security. David was also program director for the implementation of QAO’s new audit toolset and other major change initiatives. He currently leads our audits across the health portfolio. 

IA

Irshaad has over 20 years of experience in auditing organisations in the private and public sectors. He has delivered financial and regulatory audits across a range of industries, including energy, infrastructure, mining, professional services and technology. At QAO, Irshaad leads our energy audits, and is involved in our audit methodologies, the use of data analytics, and developing staff.

Joel has over 16 years of experience in delivering a range of audit and advisory services in the public and private sectors. This work, spanning both federal and state government entities, includes performance audit, internal audit, business advisory services, and external audit.

At QAO, Joel currently leads the delivery of our portfolio of performance and assurance audits.

PC

Paul has over 25 years of experience in public sector auditing including QAO’s audits of central agencies and financial services entities, and he has managed QAO’s audit methodology and quality programs. Paul provides deep knowledge of whole-of-government operations, risk and policy, and leads QAO’s audit of the consolidated financial statements for the Queensland Government. Paul also provides expertise on matters involving the role and mandate of the Auditor-General.

RK

Rob has over 23 years of experience in delivering professional services in the private and public sectors. At QAO, he is leveraging this experience as the lead of our data and analytics team. His work focuses on designing new analytics that increase audit efficiency and effectiveness, streamlining data supply through collaboration with data specialists across the public sector, and enhancing staff data literacy. Rob shares QAO's advice widely across industry.

While at QAO, Sri has led audits across a range of entities, most recently in the financial services and local government sectors. He has also provided guidance to international audit offices. In his current role, he leads our audits and our local government clients.

She has delivered reviews of Australian and overseas organisations' IT practices, covering governance, business processes, internal controls, and IT application/automated controls.

At QAO, Sumi leads our IS Risk team, which delivers a range of IT security-related reviews across our clients.

VS

Vaughan has over 23 years of experience with Australian and overseas companies, multinationals, government owned corporations, the private sector and not-for-profits. He assisted companies with financial analysis, strategic planning, financial reporting, external auditing, and reviews of internal control policies and procedures. He has significant expertise in the mining, resources, and infrastructure industries. Vaughan currently leads QAO's water and infrastructure audits.
